“Cleaning is our craft, trust our foundation''
On March 1st, 1938, Huub (C.H.) Nieuwenhoven Sr. establishes his awning factory on the Gedempte Oude Gracht in Haarlem’s city center. Just a few weeks later, there’s not only demand for placing awnings but also for cleaning them – and the windows above which they hang. Reino Cleaning Company, Window Cleaning, and Awning Factory is born.
In 1968, Reino moves to a historic building on the Klein Heiligland in Haarlem. By then, the second generation has joined (Faan Blokker and Huub Nieuwenhoven Jr.). Together they launch an innovative carpet-cleaning service center. Using new deep-cleaning methods, rugs and upholstered furniture are restored to “like new” condition after treatment.
After seven years of entrepreneurship on Klein Heiligland, the location becomes too small, and the company relocates to Zijlweg in Haarlem. Here there’s room for a showroom, office, and warehouse. From this new base, Reino continues to offer services and position itself as a key regional player in the cleaning industry.
Just before the third generation joins the company, Reino relocates to the Waarderpolder business park in Haarlem. With the arrival of son Yannick (Y.C.) Nieuwenhoven, the family business maintains its strength and entrepreneurial spirit.
With Yannick Nieuwenhoven at the helm, the third generation brings a fresh and dynamic vision to Reino. While the core values of quality and craftsmanship remain, the future of cleaning is becoming smarter, more transparent, and more people-focused. Technology and data-driven apps are now an integral part of daily operations, and with the introduction of cleanroom cleaning, the company has further specialized in highly precise and innovative services. “On to 100 years!”
